There are opportunities to volunteer within 12-step programmes and the CARAT (counselling, assessment, referral advice, throughcare) teams which are provided by RAPt in prisons. Possible roles invclude - administration, shadowing treatment teams, and working on a one to one basis with counsellors and offenders. Volunteers can gain experience of the principles of rehabilitation styles and therapeutic environments with a prospect to personal or career development.
Many people who now work for RAPt began as volunteers or peer supporters. The 12 step programme emphasises the benefits of one recovering addict helping another.
RAPt plans to gain accreditation for volunteer training in order to build the important pathway that can lead to employment.
