RAPt was launched as a charity in l992 when the need for drug treatment in prisons was recognised by a group of individuals who had studied the success of the 12-Step approach. We were entirely dependent on charitable donations until the government recognised the extent of the need for this work. We now receive some statutory funding, however, we still rely on charitable giving to fund new initiatives and to enable us to deliver the highest stands of treatment to those with addiction problems.

Trusts and Foundations currently fund:
For those who have completed a RAPt 12-Step primary programme and need support in securing funds for secondary treatment upon release.
RAPt is unique in its ability to offer free training for 12-Step counsellors, CARAT workers and prison officers. This means a high level of professional competence is consistently being achieved.
A Volunteer Coordinator based at Head Office aims to place, support and guide volunteers, during their voluntary placements in the community and prisons settings.
RAPt is developing a number of services to counteract the deficiencies in government funded alcohol work both in the community and prison estate.
RAPt is developing projects to enable prisoners to find pathways in to employment.
Invaluable statistics are being gathered to allow an evidence based approach to outcomes which then informs the development of improved services.
A specialist unit has been established in three prisons. Work allows relations to engage with the therapy undergone by the offender thus helping to support the family unit when he or she is released. We are also enabling professionals to achieve qualifications in this area.
