Strategic objectives

To achieve our mission we have identified the following strategic objectives for the period from April 2009 to March 2012:

  1. Existing services: RAPt will continue to deliver effective, well-managed, evaluated services
  2. Development: RAPt will develop new services in areas of identified need for our target population
  3. Influencing: RAPt will influence the funding and provision of effective services for people with substance misuse issues, through research and advocacy
  4. A strong organisation: RAPt will continue to demonstrate robust administration, human resources and financial management

Objective 1: Existing services

RAPt will continue to deliver effective, well-managed, evaluated services

1.1 CARAT and treatment teams to be effective and motivated in a difficult environment, meeting targets and achieving high annual audit scores
1.2 Develop manuals and achieve accreditation for a shorter version of our prison-based treatment programme, and a programme specifically for women in prison
1.3 Expand RAPt’s alcohol treatment services for people in prison
1.4 Provide an aftercare service which continues to meet and exceed the expectations of service-users
1.5 Through research and evaluation, demonstrate, maintain and improve outcomes and effectiveness
1.6 Review and constantly strengthen clinical governance across all services 

Objective 2: Development

RAPt will develop new services in areas of identified need for our target population

2.1 Achieve accreditation for an alcohol treatment programme for offenders in the community, and pilot this service
2.2 Expand our delivery of alcohol services for harmful/hazardous/dependent drinkers in the community
2.3 Develop a pathway from stabilisation services into abstinence
2.4 Develop services which take people through a pathway towards the meeting of all needs, including housing and employment, and full reintegration into the community
2.5 Develop treatment and support services for younger people and families
2.6 Develop partnerships with a range of organisations to provide fuller services, and to carry our existing expertise into new areas of activity

Objective 3: Influencing

RAPt will influence the funding and provision of effective services for substance misusers, through research and advocacy

3.1 Demonstrate the effectiveness of, and need for, intensive 12 Steps drug treatment
3.2 Develop and promote effective approaches to offender management for drug misusing offenders
3.3 Develop and promote effective models of alcohol intervention in the community
3.4 Influence for the availability of more specialist alcohol treatment services in the criminal justice system
3.5 Provide international consultancy and support in targeted areas, to foster the development of drug services for offenders in other countries

Objective 4: A strong organisation

RAPt will continue to demonstrate robust administration, human resources and financial management

4.1 Achieve sustainable growth over the business plan period
4.2 Ensure a well-trained workforce through delivery of our learning and development strategy, and extend our training to the staff and volunteers of other organisations, to improve services overall
4.3 Support volunteers and peer mentors as an integral and valued part of our organisation, equal in status to paid staff
4.4 Reduce the level of sickness absence by 20% by 2010
4.5 Enable and maintain smooth and efficient IT provision for all HQ staff and remote users by summer 2009
4.6 Achieve recognised quality standards on organisational management and environmental responsibility by summer 2009
