Kate Alliott
Kate is a lawyer by training and has been a trustee for RAPt (and company secretary) since 2007. From 2002 until 2009, Kate was a partner in the capital markets group at the City law firm Clifford Chance, specialising in project and infrastructure finance and securitisation.
The Hon David Bernstein
David has worked in the civil service, as a lawyer and is now on the boards of a small food importing company and a private investment company, both based in London. He sits on the boards of three other voluntary organisations, and of two grant-giving foundations. He is interested not only in penal affairs, but also alcohol and drug addiction more widely, human rights and refugee issues.
Louise Gibbings
Louise has been involved with the criminal justice system and the treatment of addiction for many years. She has worked for the national charity SOVA, served on the Board of Visitors at HMP Wandsworth for 15 years, and has been a trustee for the Wandsworth Prison Counselling Service and the Blenheim/Community Drug Project. At present she is a member of the Independent Monitoring Board at HMP Wayland and is also a trustee of the St Giles Trust.
Ben Houghton
Ben is a former army officer and senior executive in the financial services sector. He was chairman of Disability Sport England for five years. His other current commitments include treasurer of Missing People, investment trustee of Haig Homes and chairman of a board of school governors.
The Hon Isabelle Laurent
Isabelle has been committed to the tenets of RAPt for over 20 years, and has been a trustee of RAPt since its instigation in 1991.
Ann Smith
Ann is an English honours graduate from University College London. She has worked as a remedial teacher, a teacher for children suspended from school and an adult literacy teacher. She has a counselling diploma and a Hazelden addiction counselling diploma. A qualified trainer, Ann has written and delivered an addiction diploma course for the Priory Hospital Group. She worked for RAPt as a trainer before retiring five years ago and becoming a trustee.
John Wates JP
John has had a long interest in the criminal justice system and was a magistrate for 20 years. He chairs the Wates Foundation and is involved with numerous other charities. He has a keen interest in the recovery principle in mental health and addiction.
Dr. Michael Wilks
Michael has worked as a forensic physician in London for many years, including six years as a principal forensic medical examiner (FME). He is chairman of the Society of Forensic Physicians. He was a London-based GP from 1977 to 1992. His work for the British Medical Association (BMA) includes chairing the BMA’s Medical Ethics Committee for nine years and acting as a chief officer for three years. He is a trustee of the Sick Doctors Trust, the Drinkaware Trust and BMA Charities, as well as being chairman of trustees of RAPt. He is also President of the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME).
